Brand: Cuisinart

Height of Pan: 3 inches

Actual Depth: 2.8 inches

Cuisinart have positioned themselves nicely in the middle of the market, combining optimal quality for the price that you pay. Whilst this Cuisinart lasagna pan won’t win any awards for style, it’s up there with the best of them in terms of durability. Though in saying that, it does have a sort of retro look to the pan that many people will find attractive.

It’s made from cast iron, so it retains heat extremely well. Not only does it retain heat well, but it distributes it evenly, too. This isn’t always the case with pans that have a porcelain exterior, like this one. The handles are very wide, making for an easy grip pan. Though it is easy to grip, it must be noted that this is a heavy pan. Like, really heavy. It’s cast iron, so you know it’s durable and long-lasting, but yeah. If you’re looking for a light piece of cookware, this isn’t it.

It’s currently (at the time of writing) only available in two colors; cardinal red and provencal blue. Whilst we like the provencal blue just fine, we feel that the cardinal red has a more ‘retro’ vibe. Check the video out below for a bit more information on this classic best lasagna pan.

A more detailed look;

Pros

1) It is available at a really cheap price, which is one of the benefits of going with a Cuisinart product. You know what you’re getting with the brand; nothing amazing, but it’ll definitely get the job done.

2) Personally I like cast iron products in the kitchen. This comes down to personal preference, but I find them very solid. Most of the cast iron equipment I currently own, I bought many years ago and it’s still in good condition now.

3) Convenience is key for me, and being dishwasher safe is a must.

Cons

1) It’s not top quality, so the coating will eventually come off. This is pretty standard with cheaper cast iron stuff so don’t be too surprised; it will be good for a few years, though.

2) The pan isn’t deep enough for things like a shepherds pie – but maybe that’s just because I’m greedy!

A great option if you’re on a tight budget. Remember to keep your purchase order because Cuisinart are great with returning items if they aren’t up to scratch.

Rachael Ray Stoneware Pan

Brand: Rachael Ray

Dimensions: 13 x 9 inch

Height of Pan: 4.5 inches

Actual Depth: 3 inches

Price: $$

Whilst we love Rachael Ray as much as the next person, it’s no secret that her brand of cookware has come under some criticism. Users of her other goods have noted that they crack easily, and that the fancy exterior is a facade. Underneath the fancy exterior is a substandard product, that isn’t as long lasting as other dishes. But, is this an unfair assumption? Could this be the best lasagna pan? Well, let’s have a look at some of the features of the Rachael Ray lasagna pan.

Well, well it might not have the durability of other brands, it seems to be a pretty decent option at its price. One of the better qualities of this pan is the wide grip handles, making it super easy to take in and out of the oven. Bear in mind, this might not make it suitable for everyone. Whilst the height of the pan with handles is around 4.5inch, the depth of the actual base is only around 3 inches. For most people, this will be more than enough to make a four-layer lasagna, but it isn’t the deepest dish available.

If there’s one thing that most other cookware brands cannot match Rachael Ray, it’s style. You’ll be hard pushed to find a better-looking lasagna pan, and it its vibrant red color, it’ll fit in with most color schemes. If you go with one Rachael Ray product though, you might as well get the whole set as they all complement each other extremely well.

Pros

1) Like all Rachael Ray products, this lasagna pan is very attractive. One of the positives of stoneware is that it looks good in your kitchen.

2) 3 inches is a good depth for a lasagna pan and should be substantial for a 4 or 5 layered lasagna.

3) Probably the best thing about this lasagna pan is the built in handles which are designed to make it easy to transport from your oven to the worktop. I’m guilty of dropping a few lasagna pans in my time, and they’ve all been due to no handles!

Cons

1) I think a lot of the Rachael Ray products are based primarily on their aesthetics and lack slightly in quality. This lasagna pan isn’t bad quality (otherwise it wouldn’t be in the list) but it isn’t the best either.

2) With stoneware, it’s very easy to chip and this one is no different. As you’d probably buy this lasagna pan for it’s looks, it’s not ideal that you can chip it easily.

Whilst some Rachael Ray products don’t have the best reputation for quality, I like their stoneware range.

Chicago Metallic Steel Lasagna Trio Pan

Whilst Chicago Metallic doesn’t have a prestigious name like some of the other cookware brands on our list, that doesn’t bother us. I try to focus on practicality and value as opposed to overpriced products that break within the year. And with practicality in mind, we’ve included this pretty cool trio lasagna pan.

This pan is ideal for those with a fussy family, looking to separate dishes but still get them cooked. Got a vegetarian in the family? Well, this could come in really handy and avoid having to create two or three completely separate meals. You could even cook dinner and dessert at the same time (maybe!). Whilst you might think it is an unnecessary addition to your kitchen, it is all down to personal need. This lasagna pan wouldn’t be the best for a single person. But, if you’re a family with fussy kids having three separate compartments could be invaluable. As some of us know, there’s nothing worse than nagging kids who don’t want to eat wholewheat lasagna!

The fact that it has three compartments isn’t the only selling point of this Chicago Metallic Trio pan. It’s surprisingly durable for its lightweight build. You don’t really need to worry about scratching this pan as it’s made from coated steel, so it’ll hold up pretty well. The compartments themselves are pretty deep, and there’s a handy little lip around the top of the lasagna pan that helps to reduce any sauces spillages.

Whilst this might not be a pan that will suit everyone, it’s sure to be a good addition to most households.

So, you probably haven’t heard of Cook Pro as a brand before. And that’s okay, not many people have. Before the review, it’s probably best to get one thing clear. We’ll be the first to say that this isn’t the best quality lasagna pan(s) that you’ll find. They won’t last forever, like some more expensive pans may. Eventually they’ll become pitted or rusty, and you’ll have to invest in a new lasagna pan. If you’re an avid cooking enthusiast or restauranteur, then it’s safe to say you should avoid these pan.

BUT.. If you’re looking for pans that you’ll use pretty often and get the jobs done, then you could do a lot worse than using the Cook Pro lasagna pan(s). Moreover, you’re getting TWO pans for less than the price that you’d usually find one pan. So, technically if you were to just use one pan and then when that was spent use the other, you’re actually getting a pretty decent return on your investment. The two pans are both similar sizes, with one of them being more suitable for 1-2 people and the other would be ideal for a group of 3 or more. Or, if you’re like us, you’ll just use the bigger pan for yourself and save the leftovers for later in the week.

Another positive about these set of pans is that because they are made with stainless steel, that makes them pretty lightweight. Whilst you might not think that is a big deal now, it might prove to be an issue when you’re trying to take a heavy lasagna out of the oven!

The only real negative that could be taken from these pans is their construction, which is (unsurprisingly) cheap. The handles aren’t amazing; you’ll probably just want to get your oven gloves completely underneath the pan itself. Whilst this pan won’t last forever if you’re using it every night of the week, it’s a welcome addition if you want to cook lasagna one or twice a week.

I like this option if you want a stainless steel lasagna pan. It’s not too expensive, which is great if you’re on a budget.

If Cuisinart have positioned themselves in the middle of the market, then Emile Henry are doing a great job at securing the king of high quality label. Whilst their products are a tad more expensive than most other cookware, they are rarely lacking in quality and are made to last a lifetime. Emile Henry actually boast a 10 year guarantee with many of their products – okay, not quite a lifetime but still, it’s impressive enough.

If you’re looking to avoid China made products, then Emile Henry is probably your best choice. Manufactured in France, you can be assured that your cook ware will be of the highest quality. Not that we have anything against China made goods. But for some people, they prefer to avoid mass produced goods, which is of course commonly associated with stuff made in China. The Rachael Ray cookware set above is an example of something that has been mass produced, and hence is lacking a little in quality (in our opinion).

Sorry, back to the Emile Henry Lasagna pan! It’s made from Burgundy clay (it’s produced in Burgundy, France) which enables it to retain heat extremely well. If you’re one of those people that dishes up dinner at the table, then this is a massive plus point of this pan. It’s a super durable pan that will last well in both hot and cold temperatures. It’s also dishwasher friendly, which is a must for some.

Whilst it comes in a variety of cute colors, we prefer the plain white one. That way, it’ll fit in with any color scheme if you’re changing kitchens. With this Emile Henry, you’ll probably change your house more than you change your lasagna pan!

The second entry from Cuisinart in our list goes to show how reliable their brand has become over recent years. What’s the difference between this model and the model featured earlier in our list? Well, this one is made from hard adonized aluminium. That means that it’s better in certain way, but certainly not as good in other aspects.

Hard adonized is far more lightweight than cast iron, making it easier to move about and more portable. Many restaurants choose to use aluminium instead of other materials as it is viewed by many as the most convenient material used in cookware. If course, it has it’s downfalls too. It’s almost certainly not as long lasting as other materials, especially cast iron (which the other Cuisinart featured is made of). If you’re looking for something that’ll last you a lifetime, you’re almost certainly better off going for a different material than aluminium. Even if it is hard adonized.

What should I consider to make sure I get the best lasagna pan?

Buying your first lasagna pan? Not sure what you really need? Well, we’ve got you covered. Have a look through these checkpoints to make sure you find the best lasagna pan that will fit your circumstance.

  • Brand: This is certainly something to take into consideration. You’ll want to find a brand with a half decent reputation at least, especially if you’re looking for something long-term. The brands that we have listed vary from half decent to top quality, so have a quick look at the individual reviews for a bit more info.
  • Dimensions: Whilst this won’t bother everyone, it’ll certainly be a factor if you’re living in a smaller apartment and want to save space in your kitchen. There is a great variation in the size of lasagna pans, with standard pans ranging from 12 inches up to 20+ inches (corner to corner). A good tip is to always buy bigger than what you really need; that way, you will never be short on space!
  • Height of Pan: We have included this characteristic in our reviews as it is actually very important. Whilst the depth of the pan will be of most concern, you of course need to consider the height of the pan overall. for example, the Rachael Ray lasagna pan we have listed is around 3 inches in depth, but the pan itself is actually 4.5 inches in height due to the handles. This will make it pretty unsuitable for some people looking for the best lasagna pan.
  • Actual Depth: Along with the above, it’s important to know the actual depth of your pan. If you’re cooking for a family of 4+ you’re ideally going to be looking a pan at 3 inches depth or greater. The average lasagna pan is 2.8 inches or so, so you’re unlikely to find many less than that.
  • Price: Of course in an ideal world, the cost wouldn’t be a factor of your decision. But, we’re not all made of money, so the price of the pan definitely needs to be taken into consideration. The best way to look at it is that you’re making a long term investment on your lasagna pan. The very best lasagna pan can cost hundreds of dollars (don’t worry; we’d never advise you spend that much!). You don’t need to spend an excessive amount, but remember that if you buy the right lasagna pan, it can last you a very long time.

Our verdict

 Emile Henry Large Rectangular Baker

emily-henry

Yes, we know it’s the most expensive. Yes, we knows its made from ceramic so it’ll be fairly heavy. And yes, we know ceramic breaks easily if you drop it.

But, for us, buying the best lasagna pan is a long term investment. Personally, we’d rather buy a lasagna pan that will  have a chance of lasting for 10 or more years than one that could be ruined after a few hard scours. The Emile Henry Rectangular Baker is a great example of cookware that you likely won’t need to replace for a while. It’s stylish, good-sized and will fit well in any kitchen. That’s why we would call this one of, if not the, best lasagna pan available.
